Valves and fittings are bought on specification rather than on brand, and the specification is usually set by a consultant before a contractor ever asks for a price. What a buyer needs from a supplier in this trade is stock, paperwork and a straight answer about lead time. Stock, because a valve missing from a riser holds up a floor. Paperwork, because a consultant will reject a submittal without the mill certificate or the test certificate that the specification calls for. And a straight answer about lead time, because an indent item quoted as though it were on the shelf is a delay nobody has planned for. Most suppliers in the UAE hold gate, globe, ball, butterfly and check valves in the common sizes and pressure classes, and go to indent for the larger bores, the exotic materials and anything actuated. Ask which of those applies before you compare prices: a quote for stock and a quote for a twelve-week indent are not the same quote, and the cheaper one is often the second. Ask what the pressure class is against the specification rather than against the last job. Ask whether the body material matches the medium, because a brass body in a chilled-water line is a warranty claim waiting to happen.
